Brief History of Punta Cana
1969 – Visionary Investment A group of American investors purchased 30 square miles (77 km²) of undeveloped land. They saw the potential in the white sand beaches, coconut palms, and coral reefs.
1971 – First Hotel The first small hotel opened with just 40 rooms and 10 cabins. Access was limited to a dirt airstrip for small planes.
1978 – Club Med Arrives The French resort chain Club Med built a 350‑room resort, marking the start of large‑scale tourism.
